Follow these steps to pair your Zebra RFID device with itemit:

1. Pair the Zebra Bluetooth reader with your smartphone using the operating system settings.

2. After pairing, open the itemit app to begin using the reader.

Details for the steps above are as follows.

1. Connecting the RFD40 via Bluetooth

If you are pairing for the first time, you will need to complete the pairing process. Ensure the reader is fully charged or powered on and in pairing mode. Open the Bluetooth settings on your smartphone, find the reader in the list of available devices and select it to finish pairing.

For the RFD40, pull the trigger to power on the reader. The battery light will stay solid, and the Bluetooth light will start blinking.

2. Connecting the RFD8500 via Bluetooth

For the RFD8500, press the power button on the right side of the reader. Check the Bluetooth light on the left side — if it is not already blinking blue, press the Bluetooth button there. The battery light will turn solid, and the Bluetooth light will begin blinking.

3. Connecting Zebra handheld to your smartphone

Next, go to the Bluetooth settings on your mobile device and pair the reader.

On iOS:
Open the Settings app and tap Bluetooth. The reader will show up in the Other Devices list with a name that includes the device model and serial number, such as "RFD850020281..." for RFD8500 or "RFD40_2301252...." for RFD40.

Select the reader to pair it with your device. If pairing is successful, it will appear under "My Devices" as connected, and the Bluetooth light on the reader will stay solid. For RFD8500: after selecting the reader from "Other Devices", pull the trigger on the reader to confirm pairing.

On Android:
Open the Settings app, select Connected Devices, then tap Pair new device. Your reader will appear in the "Available devices" list with a name showing the model and serial number, such as "RFD850020281..." for RFD8500 or "RFD40_2301252...." for RFD40.

Select the reader to pair it with your device. When prompted, choose "Pair". If pairing is successful, the reader will appear in the "Saved devices" list. For RFD8500: after selecting the reader from "Available devices" and confirming on your mobile device, pull the trigger on the reader to complete pairing.

Go to step 5.

4. Connecting or reconnecting to the RFID reader

When you move out of range or if the reader is not used for some time, it may disconnect and you will need to reconnect it. However, since your RFID device is paired with the RFID reader, reconnecting it should be straightforward. Simply turn the reader on.

On iOS:
After switching on the reader, it should connect to your mobile device automatically within 5 to 10 seconds. To check the connection, open Bluetooth settings and look for the reader under "My Devices" showing as "Connected".

On Android:
If the reader is listed under your "Saved devices" and the Bluetooth light is blinking, it will reconnect automatically without further steps. If it does not connect automatically, ensure the Bluetooth light is blinking and select the reader from the "My Devices" list. When connected, the Bluetooth light will stay solid.

For RFD40: if the Bluetooth light keeps blinking even after your device shows "Connected", pull the trigger on the reader to confirm the connection.

5. Using Zebra RFID Reader with itemit

Once paired, launch the itemit app.

Press and hold the trigger on the reader and you will see a popup in itemit as it scans items in the background. It will show the strongest tag read and display its name and serial. When you release the trigger, it will open that item’s profile.

Now get scanning and show those assets who’s boss 😎 !

SPECIAL NOTE:
Please ensure the following before using your Zebra RFID reader with itemit:

  1. Do not use the Zebra 123RFID Mobile App

  2. While the Zebra 123RFID app can configure reader settings such as region, we advise against using it. This app may interfere with the connection between your RFID reader and the itemit app.
