Overview of the Feature

The Devices Feature allows workspace administrators to manage and track Fixed RFID Readers connected to the itemit platform.

Role Access

  • Owner and Admin – Have access to the Devices page and can manage readers.

  • Standard and VSC – Do not see this page.

  • Scan Only – Has no access to the web version.

Availability

This feature is available only on the Industrial Package or as an add-on to a Pro workspace.
If the feature is not enabled, users will see the placeholder:
“Manage and Track Fixed RFID Readers”
With options:

  • Unlock this feature

  • Or check out other features below: Add an Item, Create a Location, Configure Settings

When clicking Unlock this feature, an Intercom chat window opens where the user can learn more or contact support.


Objectives of Feature

The Devices Feature allows administrators to:

  • Connect and manage Fixed RFID readers.

  • Monitor reader status and activity.

  • Automatically update item locations based on RFID scans.

  • Configure installation via Web or Installer method.

  • Track device history, comments, and notes.

  • Filter and manage multiple readers efficiently.


How to Use this Feature

When Feature Is Unlocked

Users still initially see the same placeholder, but instead of Unlock this feature, they see:
Add Your First Device
Clicking this opens the Add Reader page.
itemit supports:

  • Zebra FX7500

  • Zebra FX9600

Users can also access documentation from this page.


Choose Connection Method

Users must choose between:
1️⃣ Web Method

  • Enter Reader ID

  • The Add button becomes active

  • After clicking Add, the user is redirected to the RFID Device Profile

RFID Device Profile Sections
Reader Overview Section

  • Reader ID

  • Reader image

  • Three-dot menu → Remove (after confirmation, the reader profile is deleted)

Reader Installation Section

  • Install your reader for the first time (redirects to Intercom documentation)

  • Upgrade your reader (redirects to Intercom documentation)

  • Download itemit reader agent (starts agent download)

Status Section
Displays real-time reader statuses such as:

  • Agent Connected to itemit Platform

  • Agent Running

  • Agent Connected to Reader

  • Reader Temperature Normal

  • Reader Able to Read Tags

  • Reader Ready to Send Tags

Last Activity Section
Shows the most recent tag read by the reader.
Location Configuration Section

  • Assign reader to a location

  • Once assigned, RFID-tagged items detected will automatically update their location

About the Reader Section
Users can view documentation and technical specifications via Zebra’s website.
Notes Section

  • Add text notes

  • Upload files

  • Edit notes

  • View history

Comments Section

  • Add comments

  • Upload files

  • Delete comments

  • View date and time of comment creation

History Section
Shows system activity such as:

  • Reader added

  • Other system changes


2️⃣ Installer Method
When selecting Installer, the following sections appear:
Installer Download Section

  • Download installer for Windows

  • Download installer for Mac

Generate an Installer Key Section
To connect securely, an installer key is required.

  • Click Generate Key

  • A secure key is generated

  • Users can copy or regenerate the key

  • The key expires in 24 hours


Devices List Page (After Adding Readers)

Once at least one reader is added, users will see a list of devices with columns:

  • Status

  • Device Name

  • Location

  • Last Activity

Available tools on this page:

  • Search bar – Search readers by Device Name

  • Filter by Location – Filter readers by assigned location

  • All Status (top-right corner) – Filter readers by status

  • Add Reader button (top-right corner) – Opens Add Reader window

  • Advanced Configuration – Redirects to Settings → Fixed RFID Settings

Users can navigate between:

  • Devices section

  • RFID Fixed Readers tab


Feature Settings

The Devices Feature interacts with:

  • Fixed RFID Settings in the Settings page (Advanced Configuration).

  • Location assignment for automatic item location updates.

  • Installer key generation (valid for 24 hours).

There are no role-based configuration options beyond Owner and Admin access.

  • Installer keys expire automatically after 24 hours.
